Gamer Day

From SDFS Gamer Day

Gamer Day with our Unschooler's group (Funschoolers) was in February, but I've been wanting to post about it here, because when I posted it on Facebook I received some questions about how it went.

One of our friends from our Funschooler's group has a daughter Olivia's age who's also very into gaming (much like Livie). She likes lots of the same games; Kirby, Lego Indiana Jones, Lego Star Wars, Mario Brothers and others. Her mom thought of this great idea to have a Gamer Day at her house, which also happens to be here in our town.

She set up 4 tvs, with 4 gaming systems; 2 Wiis , a Playstation & an XBOX. Kids were told to bring their personal gaming systems like nintendo ds lites, gameboys, etc. So there were all stations going at once and kids took turns playing.

There was also a trampoline out back, lots of Legos to play with and lots of snacks. We played for about 3-4 hours and the kids all had a really good time. Ages were from 2 all the way up to 13-14. Everyone played nicely together, took turns on their own, pretty much rotated around room participating in the many options that were available.

The day wouldn't be complete without the "gamer" snacks:

Livie's "up on the knees" technique works well:

The "over the head" technique works well too:

We're looking forward to the next Gamer Day which happens to be on April 1st, this week! Maybe we'll set up some Zumba, this time for the mamas! Game ON!!!
